Sugar Gets a Brother, The Adventures of a Livestock Guardian Dog is a children’s picture book and the third book of the series. It’s aimed at children ages 2-7 years old, but of course, a little younger or older will enjoy it also, especially if you have a livestock guardian dog.
What’s the Story About?
Sugar loves working on the farm as a livestock guardian dog. New babies are born every day. There are chicks, lambs, and calves. As the farm grows, Sugar’s Mom is worried that she may need help protecting the livestock.
Sugar doesn’t want any help and she certainly doesn’t want a brother!
Jaxson is a young playful pup and has a lot to learn about guarding the livestock. He doesn’t take anything seriously. Sugar constantly has to tell him that “Our job is to guard the chickens and not chase them.”
There are signs that a coyote has been on the property. Sugar and Jaxson have to keep a close watch. When they hear howling, Sugar goes to patrol the fence line.
When Sugar’s surrounded by coyotes, will Jaxson know what to do? Will he be able to save her?
A new baby can be a difficult transition for your child. They may be worried about how things will change. The story of Sugar Gets a Brother will help them relate to Sugar’s reservation about getting a brother.

- Easy to read story is perfect for children 2-7 years of age
